ABOUT US

Elektra Life Pty Ltd is a family owned company located at Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, dedicated to the manufacture and supply of transdermal magnesium products to improve people’s health and wellbeing.

The company owner-directors Sandy and Peter Sanderson have a long history with expertise in sales and marketing.  Sandy has a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of NSW (1979), with post graduate studies in business and marketing.

Sandy created and ran her own local lifestyle magazine called ‘This Month’ on the Gold Coast for eleven years where she designed advertisements, wrote copy and researched articles, many focusing on health and wellbeing.  Peter is qualified in Applied Science and is also a professional photographer.   He helped Sandy to build the magazine and was the photographer and salesman.

By 2008, at 50 years of age, Sandy developed health problems as a consequence of too much stress for many years in magazine production.  One day the symptoms became so severe she was rushed to hospital with suspected heart attack.  After testing, the cardiologist said that her arteries were clear, her heart muscle showed no deformity, and that her ectopic heart beat was just a ‘twitch’ in the heart muscle due to an electrical glitch – a bit like a twitch in the eye or a cramp in the leg.  He said there was nothing they could do because her blood pressure was too low for heart-slowing drugs.  He said to her, “Get used to it.  You would be surprised how many people have this problem.  You’ll just have to live with it like everyone else.”

Sandy’s GP diagnosed her with Hashimotos hypothyroidism, adrenal fatigue and heart arrhythmias, but she was not content to just ‘live with it’.  She used her research skills to investigate other options, and as she wanted a natural therapy, her radar came upon the benefits of magnesium chloride – used transdermally.  She read books, articles, studies on the topic.  Most influential were the writings of researchers Dr Mark Sircus, scientists Mildred Seelig & Andrea Rosanoff, and Dr Carolyn Dean.

Sandy began using magnesium chloride footsoaking and bathing and found relief from her symptoms, albeit a bit slow at first.  She found by trial and error that she needed twice as much as Peter to address her symptoms.  Peter was able to reduce and keep his blood pressure in the normal range by using transdermal magnesium once a day. Sandy however needed more, so she doubled her applications.  Then in increments the symptoms got better and better.  Each year Sandy feels improvements in energy levels and feeling of wellness.

As a result of her personal journey Sandy started her Australian business 'Elektra Life' in early 2009.   By sheer persistence she had eventually found a rare source of magnesium chloride flakes evaporated from salt water in a pristine region of the Tibetan Plateau, 3,200m above sea level.  These salts have no mercury or lead contamination and a high elemental magnesium content (approx.15.5%).

The idea then came to Sandy :   What if the magnesium chloride were incorporated into a moisturizer to make it more convenient to apply magnesium?  Most people already use a moisturizer daily.   Peter was the ideal person to formulate the cream with his Applied Science background… and he was also the cook in the family! (Peter makes the best wholegrain sourdough bread www.mybread4life.com ).

Formulation of the magnesium cream was not such an easy job, as the adding of a salt to an oil-water emulsion causes the cream to break up UNLESS certain procedures and steps are used in the process.  A number of cosmetic chemists were consulted, but couldn't help.  Peter was undeterred – like a bumblebee that didn’t know he couldn’t fly.  He just persisted.  It took one year to discover the right procedures and steps (and a few fortuitous accidents!), to fine tune the cream so it became smooth, creamy, emollient, hydrating, whilst being naturally preserved - AND without parabens, petrochemical products or animal products.

By mid 2010 Elektra Magnesium Cream (Herbal) had been developed to a commercial stage and was launched. The Magnesium Cream was very well received and news of it spread like wildfire.  Customer feedback was (and still is) truly amazing.

A second version of the Magnesium Cream with a different essential oil fragrance was developed later called 'Zest-Citrus'.  In September 2011 the new version ‘Elektra Magnesium Cream ‘Zest-Citrus’ was launched, which is now listed on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods under listing number 183096.

The Sanderson family has plans for expansion of the product range.  Their philosophy is to provide the best quality in natural body care at the fairest price.
